And we all celebrated his victory in the 2018 elections, hoping to see a better future for Pakistan. 

But sadly, things got complicated, and cheers faded as the beloved leader is now behind bars, unable to fight General Elections Pakistan 2024 for his loyal supporters. However, his troubles did not end there. Even after his downfall when he was trying to fight for his position, he got a 3 years prison sentence and had to go to jail in a corruption case. Cherry on top, he was recently accused of leaking state secrets and sentenced to a further 10 years in jail.

Even though Imran Khan had difficult times, his youthful fans remained steadfast. Following Khan’s shocking arrest, his young supporters came together with their unwavering support, rallying in solidarity with their leader. The support and passion of youth for Khan and his party, PTI, did not fail, even in the face of government attempts to put down opposition.

Moreover, Khan has always been particularly appealing to young voters, who account for a large section of Pakistan’s electorate. Through social media and his idea of a “naya [new] Pakistan,” Khan has built up a significant following among young people, who view him as a symbol of change in a nation where established political families still dominate. Even in the General Elections 2024, which took place on 8th Feb 2024, Imran Khan’s influence persisted even after the PTI was deprived of its electoral symbol and a large number of candidates contested as independent candidates. On the 8th of February, people across Pakistan went out to cast their vote in the biggest election of history as per the claims. During the process of voting, most of the places were calm. However, there was physical violence during general elections in some areas like Dera Ismail Khan and KPK,resulting in the deaths of four policeofficers.

As the authorities began to disclose the results, it was clear that independent candidates—including those connected to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan—were in the lead. Independent candidates won 88 of the 217 seats so far. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which has 61 seats, and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which has 50 seats, are next in line.

However, these results which are not final yet, are not far away from contamination. There was network blockage all over the country on the day of General Elections 2024, that led to delay in announcing the results and has caused suspicion. In addition, there have been claims of ballot tampering and rigging, raising concerns about the credibility of the election process.

One of the most controversial incidents happened at NA-128 Lahore seat, where PTI accused the returning officer of “massive rigging,” manipulating ballot boxes, and falsifying official paperwork. 

Adding fuel to the fire, Leaked videos on social media exhibit violence and rigging at voting places, raising questions about the election’s legitimacy. Amid the confusion, people are delivering accusations, with some accusing the military of manipulating the results at the last minute.

Final Thoughts

Final results haven’t come put yet, but the entire country hopes for the betterment of their country. They are questioning the ability of results, the unfairness and challenges.

However, people still have their eyes on television and social media, hoping to see the desired outcome. On the other hand, supporters widely desire to see Imran Khan released from prison as possible.
